Welcome, 2021! We hope you and your family had a wonderful holiday and a very Happy and Safe New Year! We are jumping right into January with the topics of Movement as well as Goals and Strengths. This past week we started a Movement Challenge for the staff and children! Every day, we challenge the staff to incorporate movement into their classroom with the children and on their own time at least 15 minutes each day.

We encourage you and your family at home to move every single day this month as well! Here are some fun movement activities you can do at home.

  1. Riding bikes/scooters together
  2. Have a race
  3. Play hopscotch
  4. Go on a scavenger hunt
  5. Create an obstacle course in your backyard
  6. Freeze Dance or any kind of dance
  7. Blow bubbles and play catch
  8. Play Simon Says
  9. Walk the Tightrope
  10. Jump Rope or play with a Frisbee
  11. Play kickball or soccer
  12. Play musical chairs

The benefits of regular movement are:

  • Physical Development- this occurs through movement. Children must have an opportunity for movement to help reach physical milestones.
  • Better Fine Motor Skills- before they can hold a pencil to write, they must first develop their gross motor skills.
  • Improved Concentration- regular movement helps with concentration. At BBCLC, we incorporate many, many brain breaks with movement. This helps them to re-energize and to refocus.
  • Increase Brain Development- when children are moving, they are sending oxygen to their brain. This helps with proper functioning and increased circulation, which means they will have increased brain activity and ability to learn effectively.
  • General Health- children that move will most likely turn into adults that move, which leads to adults being healthier. Regular movement is necessary for your health and well-being.
