This is our last week focusing on the topics of Empathy, Kindness, and Communication! As we are finishing up this week, we will have an All Staff Meeting tomorrow. Having monthly meetings are so important at this helps us stay connected, communicate with each other as well as discuss our topics/focus for the month ahead.

Communication is key in ANY relationship, whether it’s work-related or personal. It allows others (and yourself) to understand and express feelings, emotions, thoughts, and ideas. When there is poor or little to no communication in relationships then it will ultimately lead to misunderstandings, assumptions, and negative relationships.

While the Admin. team is continuously looking for ways for the staff to connect, communicate, and build on their relationships, we are focusing on getting to know each other and working as a team for this upcoming meeting.

Do you have any idea what your mom or dad’s favorite color is? Does your friend like apple pie or blueberry pie? Ask your son or daughter what their favorite book is and why? Does your child’s teacher have a favorite plant or flower? Does your co-worker like coffee or tea?

How can you connect with someone, if you don’t know anything about them? So, we challenge you to do this at home with your family, friends, and anyone else that you’re close with.

Another fun way to get to know how you best communicate as well as someone else is to take the Enneagram Personality test. If you have never taken this test before, it’s a system of personality typing that describes patterns in how people interpret the world and manage their emotions. There are nine personality types and maps each of these types on a nine-point diagram which helps to illustrate how the types relate to one another.

The nine personality types are divided into heart types, head types, and body types.

-Heart Types: depend on their emotional intelligence to understand their reactions and connect with others.

  • Type 2 (The Giver): 2’s want to be liked and find ways that they can be helpful to others so that they belong. This type fears being unlovable.
  • Type 3 (The Achiever): 3’s want to be successful and admired by other people and are very conscious of their public image. Type 3’s fear failure and not being seen as valuable by other people.
  • Type 4 (The Individualist): 4’s want to be unique and to experience deep, authentic emotions. Type 4’s fear they are flawed and are overly focused on how they are different from other people.

-Head Types: depend on their intellectual intelligence to make sense of things and navigate the world around them.

  • Type 5 (The Investigator): 5’s seek understanding and knowledge, and are more comfortable with data than other people. The biggest fear of Type 5 is being overwhelmed by their own needs or the needs of other people.
  • Type 6 (The Skeptic): 6’s are preoccupied with security, seek safety, and like to be prepared for problems. For Type 6, the greatest fear is being unprepared and unable to defend themselves from danger.
  • Type 7 (The Enthusiast): 7’s want to have as much fun and adventure as possible and are easily bored. Type 7’s fear experiencing emotional pain, especially sadness and actively seek to avoid it by staying busy.

-Body Types: depend on their instinctual intelligence to follow their “gut” and respond to threats and opportunities.

  • Type 8 (The Challenger): 8’s see themselves as strong and powerful and seek to stand up for what they believe in. The greatest fear of Type 8 is to be powerless, so they focus on controlling their environment.
  • Type 9 (The Peacemaker): 9’s like to go with the flow and let the people around them set the agenda. Type 9’s fear pushing people away by prioritizing their own needs, and they tend to be passive.
  • Type 1 (The Perfectionist): 1’s place a lot of emphasis on following the rules and doing things correctly. Type 1’s fear being imperfect and can be extremely strict with themselves and others.
