We had a RAWRING good time during Camp Land of the Lost! Some of the fun activities we completed were dinosaur dress-up, digging for bones, taste-tested vegetables like a herbivore, dinosaur fossils, and dinosaur stamping.
Some fun Dinosaur themed activities you can do at home that incorporate small and large muscle control, sensory, math/measuring, sorting/sequence, and letter recognition.
Dinosaur Sorting- Sort by using words like small, medium, or large. Also, you can sort by land, air, and water.
Fossil Find- Become paleontologists and find fossil letters in the sand using your tool brush and match them together.
Dinosaur Egg Hunt- Hide eggs in your backyard and go on a hunt together!
Frozen Dinosaur Eggs- Put a toy dinosaur inside a balloon filled with water and freeze. Take them out of the freezer and cut off the balloon. Have the children use a turkey baster to squeeze warm water over the eggs to excavate the dinosaurs or put them outside and see how long it takes for them to melt!
Salt Dough Dinosaur Fossils- You will need 1 c. of salt, 1 c. of flour, and ½ c. warm water. Combine ingredients into small size balls and press down with the palm of your hand. Have the children press dinosaurs into the dough. Remove the dinosaur to reveal the “dinosaur fossil”. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-60 minutes.
DIY Kinetic Sand– You will need 2 c. of green craft sand, 1 T. corn starch, 1 t. Dawn Dish Soap, and water (start with ¼ c. and add as needed). Add ingredients together and then into a sensory bin. For fun, add dinosaurs, fake grass, and trees.
Dinosaur in Lava- You will need baking soda, white vinegar, droppers, plastic toy dinosaurs, a tray, and a jar. Start by sprinkling baking soda all over the tray bottom. Add the jar to the middle of the tray and add baking soda to fill almost half of the jar. Set the dinosaurs up around the tray. Have children help by using the dropper to add vinegar to the jar of baking soda. See what happens next!! *If you choose to add food coloring to the vinegar, I encourage orange as red with vinegar and baking soda turns it pink instead.
FUN FACT: Did you know the size of a T-Rex foot was 3 ½ feet long?
