Happy LOVE Month! Ways to be KIND to others and yourself!

Happy LOVE Month!

This past month, along with our themes and Letters of the Week, we focused on Empathy, Kindness, and Communication!

What does it mean to have empathy and kindness? In short, empathy means to have the ability to imagine with others might be thinking and feeling as well as the ability to sense other people’s emotions. Kindness means the quality of being friendly, generous, or considerate and a kind act.

During our Positive Education Focus, we created beautiful Valentine’s Day cards and we mailed them to our local Assisted Living facility. We encouraged our families and followers to add Assisted Living facilities (and Police Stations, Fire Departments, Library, and more) to their list when sending out cards.

Even though the holiday is over, we still encourage you to share your kindness by sending a card to at least one person a week, whether it’s a Thank You card, I’m Thinking of You card, or a Catching up card. While this may be one small act, it can truly make someone day, week, or even month!

“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” –Aesop

As we continued into the month, we celebrated and recognized Random Acts of Kindness Day (17th) by reading Pete the Cat’s Groovy Guide to Kindness by our Author of the Month: Eric Litwin. We had a Groovy Dress-up Day and discussed different ways to show kindness.

Here are some ways to show Kindness today and every day!

  1. Feed the birds
  2. Pick up litter
  3. Compliment a friend
  4. Donate your old toys and books
  5. Take treats to your local fire station or police station
  6. Buy a coffee for a stranger
  7. Help your neighbor with yard work
  8. Donate coloring books and crayons to your local Children’s hospital
  9. Volunteer at the animal shelter
  10. Plant something

Don’t forget to be kind to yourself!

  1. Practice gratitude
  2. Meditate
  3. Proper sleep
  4. Move your body
  5. Acknowledge your feelings and emotions
  6. Do something you like or love
  7. Give yourself recognition
  8. Speak kindly to yourself

Lastly, we shared with our families a 30-Day Empathy Challenge and encourage you to do this at home with your family and friends!

Be sure to come back as we continue to discuss our Themes/Letters, Specials/Special Activities as well as share Tips and Tools for at home!
